Going to open a bank account, probably with Westpac, sending the application via fax. Has anyone else done this and how long did it take before you got the paperwork back???

Probably moving house in a few weeks and we are worried paperwork wont be back in time!!
(yeh i know i should have done it before now!!!)

it takes 30-45 mins then you get a printout slip with your details ''so you can withdraw cash until your card comes through!''

we were told they don't issue cards until you arrive in aus????

you have to call in to your local branch with details then you get the printout there and then!!

when you arrive if you need to withdraw cash before you get your cards you can get your details printed out so you can get cash if needs be!!!!

We did it recently. Sent the douments by post and received the confirmed account opening details in about 10-12 days by post from Aus.

You have 60 days to get some money into them before they close them and you cannot withdraw funds until you visit the branch you opened the account at to provide verification of your ID, something they call the 100 point test. They will issue bank cards and cheque books there and then apparently.

I don't know if this is just because we're in New Zealand but I don't think it is, but you can open an account online which looks like it's up and runing immediately. Go to www.westpac.com.au (I think) and check the link to immigrant banking.

I faxed our application form to Westpac on Monday 2pm Uk time, got an email Tuesday am to confirm email address and saying account opened and account details being sent in the post (they quote 10-15 days for paperwork to arrive).

A had a look at his paperwork C and it actually arrived through the post after 4 days. We have also put some money into the accounts, we have opened up 2 with westpac, one for savings, one for spending! as when we arrive it will give a bit of credit history
