Sometimes 457 visas take longer for other reasons. It is not always the employers fault. And it's an urban myth that 457 is much quicker than employer sponsored migration - it's a little quicker on average, but not much.

Short answer: NO.

Longer answer:

- you might be eligible for limited reciprocal Medicare cover, depending on nationality and previous resdence
- once you apply for a permanent visa, you get full Medicare automatically (with this visa)
- if you are not eligible for any Medicare coverage, then get a letter from them and you don't have to pay the ATO Medicare levy.

Health insurance will be a lot more expensive if you do not have full Medicare cover. Employers are supposed to pay for this but many of them don't.

If he doesnt fill in the forms for the first 8 months, it can take that bit longer.

I hope this link works properly, but from my understanding of what i read on this link, visitors from the UK are entitled to Medicare

Yes but this is only limited coverage. Full Medicare is not part of reciprocal arrangements.

It may be supposed to be limited but we have yet to be told that we aren't eligible for anything. In fact when we registered for Medicare the lady told us that we wouldn't get charged for anything as if a doc is treating you then it will automatically be treated as essential ie he wouldn't be treating you otherwise!

We are UK citizens here on a 457 and have been to a Bulk Billing Doc for several things. My son has daily visits to have dressings changed due to a fall and we haven't paid for anything .

Cheers

Ian
