Can anyone help: When we receive are requests (fingers crossed) for medical and police checks is their a time limit on how long we have to get them done and return them.

I got my request in the beginning of March. The letter said I had 49 days from receipt of the request to return the information, BUT they said I was assumed to have received the letter 21 days from date of of the letter - so in total you have 70 days from the date of the letter. My letter was dated 3 March, I received it 8 March, and the deadline they have given me is 12 May.
