Default How to get best rate for currency exchange!?

Hi everyone,

Any ideas? I'm off to Brisbane for a couple of months in June and want to change £4 - 5000 into $aus whats the best way to do this? I've only ever done it though my bank. Is there a way to get a better rate of exchange??

Thanks

We seemed to get a better exchange rate by using our UK credit cards for purchases than we did by buying Aussie Dollars and exchanging travellers checks.

Use your credit card as much as possible. So long as you can pay it off of course.

Have a great time.

Hi Bkate, I had a look at this myself as it seemed interesting. Couldn't see the charge price either, but did get as far as this link about opening an account... maybe you can see something on here that I didn't!?

There is no fixed charge ... Halewood make their money through the spread between the price they can obtain for UK£'s and the price they offer you. The more A$'s you buy, the better the rate they offer you.

Best regards.

They don't charge - at least not on the first transaction. Got a feeling they may charge for subsequent transactions.

Generally they quote the 'bank rate', which you yourself can get if you buy £5 000 000 worth of currency (so check behind your settee).

Anyway, as the ever helpful Mr.Collett pointed out, they make their money on the difference between what they can buy/sell it for.

They are more competitive than banks because they specialise, and they want you to buy a minimum of £5000 worth of currency.
