How dog friendly.....

Hi i just wondered if anyone could be more specific on how dog friendly the country is (particularly Perth).

We have just returned from a holiday in France, where dogs seem to go everywhere, restaurants, shops, beaches etc. and truly are mans best friend, yet cross the border to Spain and they have a totally different lifestyle and many are strays.

Are dogs generally allowed in restaurants, shops, cafes, beaches etc?

i know in this country things vary, in essex you can take your dog very few places, not even a petrol garage! yet in cornwall they are welcome on beaches and many more inns and pubs etc.

Just wondering????

Thanks

Very few areas you can take your dog and let them off the lead. Restaurants and shops are out of bounds totally I have found and to be honest rightly so. A few beaches are set aside purely for dogs and in some areas there are off lead areas in parks.

Friendlier than Vietnam and Hong Kong where dogs are a delicacy.

Watch out for the aboriginals. Dingo is a part of their diet.

Lois, you'll have to forgive us all...these things tend to degenerate when they perhaps shouldn't.

I think Australia in general is very dog friendly but they wouldn't be welcome (as visitors!) in a restaurant or the shops. :)

Re: How dog friendly.....

"The Moonee Valley Community News reported that passers-by in a Niddrie shopping strip had to rescue a 10-week-old Staffordshire-cross pup from an unidentified man who was holding it in a plastic bag.

The man, said to be of Asian appearance, motioned that he intended to eat the animal. Dogs, and to a lesser extent cats, are eaten in some Asian countries, particularly Korea. Waitress Rebecca Silva yesterday told reporters she took the puppy from the man after he pointed to it and suggestively brought his hand to his mouth several times.

The pup's owner, Erin Marquis, told reporters she could not believe someone was planning to eat her dog. "People in Australia go and get a pie, not a dog," she said."

Seriously. There are special dog parks in most new estates. There are dog beaches. And there is bush where you drive out and see hardly anyone, but hope the dog comes back.

Like most westernised countries only guide dogs are allowed in highly public areas.

Did you hear about the insomniac dyslexic who lay awake at night wondering if there really was a dog? :D

Dog pie, hadn't thought of that. No, we don't eat canines in Japan, just the odd bit of basashi (horse meat). Raw with soy sauce.
