Default How does credit referencing work here?

I'd imagine there exist credit reference agencies such as experian/equifax in the UK? Anyone know who these companies are over here?

What about the electoral roll issue? This is obviously restricted to citizens, so is it the case that non-citizens are going to find it tough going obtaining credit facilities?

We've managed to obtain a credit card through a contact at the bank manually approving the application, but a recent online application failed, no reason given. What steps can we take to rectify this? I'm not at all keen on paying sixty five bucks for the dubious privilege of making the bank a bit of extra cash by using their CC, and would like free-er rein on which credit cards are available. Any ideas?

Cheers,
Alex
