How does anyone rate the Commonwealth Bank Migration Package?
We were looking at the Commonwealth Bank migration package. This means that we will have to sign up with the Commonwealth before we leave England. We were attracted by the £306 single per person to Perth with double baggage allowance (40kg each).
However, I wonder how they compare, and although the air fare is very attractive, are there going to be 'hidden' costs which would make this not such a good deal after all? Has anyone signed up for this or looked into it? Regards Pookin |
Hi Pookin,
Can you tell us more about the package? It sounds very interesting. |
Commonwealth Bank Migration Package
Hiya
I only received the paperwork yesterday and haven't really looked at it yet. If you call the bank in London, you can order a package and quiz them about it. Regards Pookin |
Thanks for the number.
Good luck with your move. Sue |
I found this website link, .....
http://www.commbank.com.au/personal/...oAustralia.asp You can fill in a request form and they will call you??? I have heard that their charges are pretty steep though, others on the forum have suggested HSBC. I haven't heard about the low fares before, so it might be something to consider! Hazel :) |
I have just rung the number given, but it was Quantas flights. I got a quote anyway and for September it is £471 + taxes.
They didn't have the number for the bank but will go on the internet and have a look. Thanks anyway. Sue |
Quick point of clarification. You don't have to sign up with the Commonwealth Bank to qualify for the Quantas fare, BUT the figure quoted is FROM and during the (UK) summer the fare is much higher. We were quoted £509 from 1st July to 14th August and £431 from 15th August to 14th September to Sydney
You are likely to be able to find a cheaper flight with a different carrier, and from recent posts, if you go via the US, you can get far greater baggage allowances in any case (no pun intended!) Kev |
Hi all.
We had a flight quoted yesterday by Qantas for £444 per adult & £333 per child + £157.60 tax = £1711.60, departing on 20th November from Heathrow to Melbourne .... & we are not members of the Commonwealth Bank!! Regards :D Ian  |

Originally posted by thewoods where do you get the quotes from for the 1 way flight from commonwealth bank -anybody got a number It is a promotional leaflet inside the migration pack. However like everyone else has said it is only a from £*** not a definate price. Also Commonwealth Bank is very expensive where charges are concerned. But if you ring for the pack you will see that Jo |
sorry thought that number was for a package not a flight price!!

Hi all,
If you rate the Commonwealth Bank high, have you investigated the others, and which have you found to be at the top of your list? Really not bothered about flights, we know that we have got to get there, and we will look at all when the time comes. Thanks to all for your input. Sue |
We opened our a/c in London, transferred some cash to Oz, jumped on a plane and had the whole thing working on day 2.
The advisor at the CBA went through the banking system here ("Now, we call it an ATM..."), gave us our cards and that was that. Too easy. (I've got to stop saying that....no worries...) I'd use them just for the transition, then see who you're happiest with. Oh and the flight promo was the most expensive at the time. We booked direct with Singapore. On the subject of flights, the US route takes ages (31hs?), LAX is supposed to be a nightmare and the luggage allowance is on;y 2 pieces of upto 32kgs each. Some airlines have a checkin at Paddington station which was total bliss..... Mouse |
I wouldn't choose the Commonwealth for my ban account. I had an account with them and closed it within a month :)
