How do you pay for university

I wasn't sure whether you pay for university up front or if it's like the British system where you take out a loan and then pay it back once you start working.

Anyone who knows anything on this, it'd be a great help. Cheers

Essentially if you are not an Australian citizen your options are more limited. It really depends on your situation.

My Sons attend uni and as we are PR but not yet citizens we have to pay domestic fees upfront each semester.
Next year when we are citizens we will get a 20% discount on these fees if we continue to pay upfront. You can as a citizen use HECs Help to defer your fees.

Thank you for the replies. How much is it up front per semester?

Each degree has a different cost you need to decide on one and check the fee charged by each uni for the course, each unit can also be different depending on the fee stucture.

Best to look on uni websites for an idea of costs .

My sons are both doing double degrees and cost is about $10 k each a year. This can change depending on units taken.

for me being a citizen its $520 per unit and you do 4 units a semester and 2 semester in a year, it all gets put on HECS and you pay when you are earring $41k or there abbots. Its same price for PR but they have tp pay upfront and as someone mentioned already gets a 20% discount. Its more if you are not PR though.
