Default How do you get a UK TV working in Australia ?

Hi All,

I have allready searched this forum and discovered that Uk an Oz
have slightly different standards. I read that it is possible to use a Uk TV so long as you supplement it with an aussie VCR for the tuner. Has anybody done this?

I have a UK TV and aussie recorder and connected them as I would normally (aerial into VCR, and coax lead from VCR into TV aerial socket). I am able to tune in the pictures but still get no sound.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yours sincerely,

A simple PAL I to PAL B conversion. ('B' is the sound carrier system) Costs about $60-$80 but you have to look around for this price as Australian engineers know most Brits 'need' their TV and will try to charge higher. Also don't bother with using the video as a tuner, this means that you won't be able to watch one channel while you record another. Get the tuner converted at the same time. UK uses channels 21-68, Aus uses channels 0-11.

Steve.

Default TVs in Oz

Go to http://emigrate.hotshopping.com.au note no (www) good info on all things Oz Re TVs you can use a cheap vidio as a tuner your TV becomes a screen and speakers, you cant record and watch another channel. Keep searching the forum lots of threads on this subject. Regards Colin, nearly cleared the garage.

I thought this worked but just had a look at karawarra's site, it seems you need a scart or s-video connection, not coax, which is why you've got no sound.

Yep thats right..it will only work if you use a scart lead from the video to the TV. disconnect the RF lead

cheers

But you still can't watch one channel while you record another. Easier to get it converted as it saves all the fiddling about. It would also leave your scart socket free for your dodgy Eastenders DVD's!

Using a 'chord' could be 'A Major' problem. You'll have to 'B Sharp'-er than that!
