How do you claim VAT back?

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how we claim VAT back on goods we buy to take over to OZ. We have bought new beds and TV's etc and was told to claim back the VAT.
Someone said to me to take the receipts to the airport but I think the receipts have to go to the shippers.

Thanks
Shabee

Not sure but I think that you have to take items with you to the airport that you want to claim the VAT on, as when we left the UK I bought a new B&O stereo and wanted to claim the VAT back, I was told that the shop I bought it from had to apply to HM Customs for a special form then I had to take the said items to the airport with me, yeah right !!!!

Added to which if the shippers bring in the goods as brand new and VAT not paid, then you will have to declare them as such and get stung for GST this end.

I think you may also have to be non EU citizens into the bargain.

Same as when you buy an item eg camera, from an ordinary store in Australia to take back overseas, although here all you have to do is take the item, flight ticket and receipt to Customs counter at the airport to claim back GST.
