Hi There,

We used to use Skype to call the UK and various other countries, but for some reason it does not work anymore (eversince we got wireless internet.)

Can anyone suggest any other way to call outside Oz, without breaking the bank, and how does it work (we have a Telstra land line.)

when you say "wireless internet" - do you mean that you have a wireless router in your home?

If so, there's absolutely no reason why Skype shouldn't work on it. Skype only needs a very small amount of bandwidth to run.

So there's either a problem with your wireless setup, or your skype installation.

Do a bit of research on google and you'll be able to fix it.

I use a Daybreak Card. You buy them at the post office.

Dial the code on the back enter the pin number on the card then dial UK number.

I put $20 on mine and it lasts ages theres no connection fee on your telstra bill either....you just use the credit on the card then top it up as and when

You probably need to make sure you avoid the premium rated 0870/0845 numbers.

dunno not had to ring anything like that, just use it for family really. its an add on plan international value subscription $10 a month.

We are on the Telstra 'Everyday' rate which is only 12c per minute for international calls and all local ones are free.

Skype should work with your wireless solution, so I would spend the time to diagnose why it's not working, rather than spending the dollars on telephone calls. This is probably the wrong forum for discussing Skype issues, but the Skype Forum is a mine of useful information (use your Skype username to sign in).

Calling cards are the best option, either Go Bananas or Daybreak I think charge about 1c per minute to the UK.

If you like to chat as much as we do then try a Say G`day card. I buy one for $30 and get 9 hours of talk time!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheap as......................We have a telstra landline.

quite happy with the plan though, just cant be arsed faffing about with cards and long numbers and topping it up etc. aside from landlines a 20 minute call to a uk mobile was $8 which I think is cheap?
