How do you actually get it?

When you have been granted your visa, how do you actually get
it physically in your passport?

Do you get something to stick into your passport or do you
have to send your passport away?

Thanks for any info.

Karen.

Usually you have to send your passport in for them to stick a nice sticker in it

You have to send it to London Karen, they're pretty quick though, ours was back in 3/4 days.

And in it are the immortal words:

Holder permitted to remain in Australia.....INDEFINITELY.

Or words to that effect.

With a first land date and a visa expiry date if you choose to validate before moving.

Happy days

Can you actually just send a copy of the letter that they sent you? I have just photocopied it but was wondering if that is ok?

I actually turned up at Aus house waving me passports....they stuck the visa's in there and then.

Think they discourage this now though.

That was allowed until last November. I believe they want to reduce the qs and move people to online visas. Electronic 457s and working holiday labels now get evidenced at Sydney airport or at an Oz DIMIA office after arrival.

I know someone who went to London last month with passports and grant letter in hand, but the woman behind the counter refused to put the visas in his and his families passports. She even admitted that when he posts them, it would be her that would end up doing it but she still refused to do it there and then.

??? i was under the impression you have to go to australia to get your visa....hmmm im confused, and no its not hard to do lol

I've actually got two visa's in my british passport. They told me the first one was incorrect and then put in another visa on the next page. When I arrived in Oz they stamped the incorrect one first, then I pointed it out to them and then they stamped the other one. Weird.

Maybe that makes me doubly-aussie?

For the new e-visas such as 457s and WHVs then you are correct. You can get them evidenced at Sydney airport or your nearest DIMIA office on arrival.

For the PRs posting to the nearest mission is the preferable method.

Is that definite that you can't just go to Australia House and need to send the passports off? Hate the thought of the passports going missing that's all...the yellow envelope arrived this morning so we can get the visa put in our passports ASAP!
