Default how come you can import live horses to australia, but......

you cant bring horse hair over from the uk?

hubbie asked me that. you can ship over horses okay to australia, no problem. however, we have a rocking horse with real horse hair on it. i have been told that the horse hair will have to be removed before shipping it over. why, if they allow the same stuff but on a live animal?

anybody know the answer. i have contacted the 'powers the be' over in australia, but they just sent me over what we can/what we cant bring over list. couldnt find horse hair on it.

I dont know, sounds odd.

But injecting some fun into the equation, you could ship your rocking horse as a live horse and say to the pet export 'He is very good, he doesnt move unless someone is on his back, treat him gently though and not too much prodding and poking'

Then when they load him up you could say 'He won the Rocking Horse Championships you know, it was a lookalike contest'

awwh sam, knew you would come up trumps (not literally of course! ).

its a bit strange, isnt it? the rocking horse will come with us come hell or high water. and i will be damned if i have to cut off her lovely locks. just doesnt seem fair. obviously, if it has to come off, then i will oblige, but i will put up a fight (needs fisty cuffs smilie now)

somehow shipping it as a live animal wont wash. hubbie is already having a dickie fit over shipping the dog. he keeps saying shes not going, i say she is. mmmm, wonder who will win.........

You could get a small tape recording of horsey type snorting noises.

Cover rocking horse with blanket and play horsey noises and say 'Hes ever so nervous, we cant possibly take him without his blanket and he is racing in the Rockingham Derby'

When they are not looking, empty a bucket of horse shit on the floor and say 'Oh dear, his bottom has just been sick'.

Seriously though, if you have to chop off the hair, can you get it redone in Oz. There are places that restore old rocking horses.

If I have time, I'll search for it later, but somewhere on here there is at least one thread on this - rocking horses that have had to have the hair removed, but there isa place that repairs them. Try looking under soft toys or teddy bears perhaps - I know its around somewhere.........

mmm, ive managed to find one in adelaide, or was it melbourne? mr mover told me about her. unfortunately, we are going to NSW. i am sure it can be done, but they are as rare as rocking horse shit!!! lol. have asked my brother who lives there, but he is useless and has said 'you'll be lucky!'. so, if i have to take a hairless rocking horse, just hope to god i can find someone in NSW, otherwise a trip to adelaide/melbourne might be in the offing!

Thats the one I remember reading about then. try ringing or emailing them and see if they have any ideas of firms in NSW - must be a soecialist field so you could be lucky, I'd guess if there is one they'll know.

If it's not on the list you received from AQIS, then presumably it is ok. Who told you it had to be removed

My mother wanted to buy an heirloom for the girls when they were little, I said that they would love a "proper" rocking horse but she had always wanted a big dolls house so she got them that. Neither of them ever played with it - had no interest in that sort of thing. It went to the dump before we left
