Default How big's a square and what does it include?

Houses in QLD seem to be advertised as so many squares!
Assuming one square is 1 sq metre so it would be about 10 sq ft.
However, when I look at houses that are 25 squares, they are certainly no where near 2,500 sq ft.
One house I saw was advertised as "241.50 sqm (26 squares approx)" which really is confusing.
Do they include decking/patio areas?

Andrew

A square is the imperial 10ft x 10ft = 100 sqft or as ABC points out = 9.3 sqm

Area in squares can include a garage or carport under the roofline. Some dodgy builders try to include the eaves as well. Decking & patio shouldn't be included. You really need to ask each time & don't assume anything

We are building at the moment. Our house size is not including the eaves but does include garage / porch / patio / parents retreat (God, that sounds naff )patio. For us it's all walkable floor space.

That's true in our case, apart from the slab we are having added to the back of our bedroom ( parents, "boll*x", retreat - why don't they just call it the 'master bedroom' anymore??? ) which is not under the eaves at all -

we're having something else to 'cover' - haven't decided what yet though, maybe an awning, maybe several cheap minions just to fan us down. (that's tongue in cheek, obviously. God knows, if anyone was going to be doing the fanning down, it'd probably be Ste!!! Our finances don't stretch to one small minion, never mind a few....although we do have 2 small children...there's a thought.... )
