how to avoid mould on shipped clothes
 

:confused:ok, having just read on the insurance website that clothes can get mouldy during shipping..... how do I stop this happening?

Is there somewhere that does huge bags of silica gel? and if so is that what I need to be using?

Many thanks ... am about to pack unecessary clothes

Err, not sure all clothes get mouldy. Ours didn't at all. But i suppose you can't be too careful.

Our clothes didn't go mouldy either! we did buy some small packets of silica gel and chucked a few in with everything as we went along, but we self shipped, not sure if packers would do that for you?
The only thing I noticed was that our pillows were a bit whiffy but I just hung them on the line for a bit and they were fine!

our did not get mouldy - did sick a few of the gel packs with my shoes to make sure :)
I would suggest that items are thoroughly dry after washing, avoid packing in bin liners/plastic bags where they can sweat. Our packers adviced that the washing machine was not used for so many days before being packed so it could dry out.

We have had more of a prob since arriving - we found clothes in the wardrobe that have not be worn for a bit with mould on.

ours were ok too but what I did was put stuff like hubbys kilt and really good stuff in Vac Bags....also did this with all my bedding and doonas.....saved bloody heaps of room. Oh yeah and all the kids soft toys went in one too, they thought it was well funny looking at all the squished faces through the bags

i bought a load of silica gel sachets off ebay and randomly chucked them in with clothes, not because of shipping but because our container was going to be in storage for almost 4 months before leaving the UK and about 2 months here in brisbane before we got it. no mould on the clothes, just a bit whiffy.

The more, ahem, "organic matter" on your clothes, the more mould you will get.

Our clothes smelt a bit musty, but no obvious signs of mould. Just washed them all when I unpacked and they were fine.
