Hi,

Telephone is about $40 per monh, plus $10 per month for phonecard for UK calls

Council rates and water - not sure as they are paid by landlord

Foxtel (like Sky) - I believe starts at $50 per month

Electric about $300-$350 per quarter (family of 5 in 4 bed house, no pool, no air-con)

Let me know if you want any more but those are the main ones. If you do a search there are some threads on here with very detailed figures

Rates in QLD are based on unimproved value of the land. Depending on location expect $2000pa. Depending on local Council you may have to pay for excess water usage.

No TV license.

You must NEVER use your phone!! The line rental alone is anywhere from $20 pm to $30 depending on your plan.

Our Phone bill is usually around the $100 per month
Internet $80pm
Gas $35pm
Electric $40pm
Car insurances (2 cars) $150pm
House insurance $20pm
Contents insurance $20pm
Rates $80pm
Water - Not sure yet as we havent had our first waterbill since buying the house

apart from mortgage and general living costs...thats pretty much our monthly bills off the top of my head...

Car rego is often considered a hidden nasty - it is way more than the equivalent (road tax) and includes a compulsory third party insurance element (covers you for liability against people - nothing more).

Also, if you have a trailer - need rego.
Also - if you have a boat - need rego.

Cheers,

Hi

Just a general comment.

I don't know what the insurance covers in Queensland, but the one in Victoria is worth every single cent. You would be surprised what it covers.

I was involved in an accident before I came to the UK - not my fault - snf someone was killed. The insurance covered all the counselling expenses - at the psychologist of my choice not theirs, for as long as I needed it, as well as the help to get back onto the road driving.

Additionally a friend (when we were young and stupid) was hit. He suffered terrible injuries, in hospital for over 6 months. All of this was covered not a single out of pocket personal expense, including alterations to his home to allow him to come home earlier.

I know this level alters from state to state but I do not begrudge paying it in Victoria after my experiences.
