thank you
Yeah, some smaller towns and poorer outskirts suburbs of the big cities do have some rough housing. Parts of Australia can get away with some basic housing in poorer areas due to not needing to keep extreme cold out. It is not all like this though with plenty of better stuff. Bit the same as Canada I would have thought going on what I saw there...some of the smaller towns were very basic. Even worse after a hail storm smashes that plastic cladding they use on some canadian houses to shreds

Yes, they do. Just drove by one on the weekend. Looks the same as the Canadian variety. Perminant and all.

Tim's.

Seriously, this thread is kinda silly. What we're missing in terms of standard of living? Nothing. If it was that bad, we would have moved back.

Honestly I am shocked to see coober pedy.. not sure if canada has a coober pedy!
No, not really. Creature is right about the things I miss. Cross-border shopping, late night shopping, being able to go to Crappy Tire on a Sunday, seasons (mostly fall). Australia has given me some pretty good opportunities and a pretty good standard of living so I really can't complain.

Yellowknife was better than what? Yellowknife makes Edmonton look like a cosmopolitan paradise.

Hmm...shitty Canadian towns.

Rocanville, SK (yay, potash)
Hinton, AB (yay, pulp mill)--partial redeeming marks for the Rockies
Davidson, SK (well, it has the A&W)
Brooks, AB (yay, cattle)

I think I have a photo standing by the giant goose...or maybe that was Sudbury's gigantic nickel.

I mean no doubt australia is a good country and for people coming from developing countries it provides a good standard of living, but i just wanted to compare the standard of living with other western countires such as canada and u.s/u.k.

would love to know more, if there are shitty places in the u.s i m sure there are! but for people have lived in the u.s would they ever move to australia? if yes? why?

I am remember dorothy posting in one thread, saying she would not have moved to australia in the first place,( if you dont mind, may i ask why). i also know that u.k was your 1st choice but is australia giving you what you thought you would have in the u.k(except for the climate).

Thank you all once again for your brilliant answers.

i came across this other forum and they havve a thread i hate australia. mostly brits complaining that oz is no way like uk and some even feel they just moved to vietnam or iraq. wonder what the brits/ canadians make of that?
i would not mind moving but dont want to feel like just moved to iraq especially if it meant to give up what we have in canada.
are there more towns like coorey in oz? i did chexk out the shitty canadian towns but i have to say even thought they might hqve broken bouses but nothing asbad as coorey. on the other side berry in oz was really beautiful. wonder if 90 % -95% of oz is like berry when u see in person.

Australia is like Iraq?! Don't be daft.

"give up what we have in canada." If you enjoy living in a fridge for a large part of the year then stay in Canada. What do you believe you have in Canada that you don't get in Australia, excluding frostbite of course.

If you think Berry is the exception rather than the rule.. then check out all the towns along the Illawarra coast... Shellharbour Village, Minnamurra, Kiama, Gerringong, Gerroa, then it's Berry, then Shoalhaven Heads.... just keep going down the coast.
