House surveyed today-not good news!
We accepted an offer on our house 2 weeks ago, it was £6,000 below the
asking price and we had already dropped £3,000 so really £9,000 in all.
Anyway, the surveyor came in today and I managed to get out of him that
there is a bit of a problem with damp on the downstairs outside bay wall, and
the gutterings need replacing, which we knew already. He also said that
there were a few other things but he didn`t go into detail. Anyway just
panicking as we have got to validate by end Jan 06 and needed to tell
someone!
Oh, there was something else. He said that our drive sloped towards the
house and that is a problem because the rain water just sits there and
causes moss and also could be the cause of the damp. Can it get any
worse?

Re: House surveyed today-not good news!
Normally if the surveyor picks up some indication of damp, then his report will recommend an inspection by a specialist damp expert. The buyer may or may not take up this recommendation. If he does, the damp expert will come round and probe the walls and possibly ask to lift the floor coverings and floorboards to check for rot. If they find rot, this is bad news as this problem is hard to fix. However, it's quite possible there is no real problem and the surveyor is just covering his @rse, as they do all the time.
Good luck.

Also, you can buy various types of moss killer solution at good garden centres. Get some and follow the instructions to completely eliminate all moss you can see. Moss is a dead giveaway of damp issues...
