I know people from council estate. My wife's grandparents lived on one after the war. They were very happy there for many years until the 1990s when people started turning into scum, and then they were driven from the estate by the violent and aggressive behaviour of the new breed after forty years. I have lived a couple of streets away from a council estate, and I had to walk through one to get to school, and had to sit in school with the inmates from the estate. I stick my my dung-house comment, sorry.

No i agree with this, i think myself and relatives have been fortunate over the years, to live in okish council estates, with good schools and good neighbors. I must admit i am a bit jealous of their now rent free, morgage free lives thanks to thatcher:eek: Which is a whole other argument as to why their are some really shit council estates.

Re: House prices
I remember as a kid going to a school friends council house for the first time and seeing him being allowed to eat his fish fingers, chips and peas sitting on the sofa watching blue peter, AND making a chip butty with peas in it too, talk about a moment of awakening lol. I thought this was just brilliant and couldn't wait to get home and explain to my parents how this new idea should be incorporated into our household - The look on my mothers face would have turned milk into cheese.

I am not complaining about my lot. We count ourselves in a good situation, we may have no property but we are debt free, have savings and both working full-time, in this day and age i think that's a damn good situation to be in. Anyway your back on ignore:p I owned an ex-council house for a while in the UK. It was built in 1947 and was in a one-street 'estate' of all privately owned ex-council houses. It was a nice place and I enjoyed living there, but there was a basic fact - no council tenants. |
