Default House contents insurance in Australia

Hi ... can anyone recommend anywhere to contact for house contents insurance once we arrive in Australia. We have organised travel insurance but need to organise proper contents once we arrive. Any recommendations would be welcomed! Thanks! Katy

you may find you will get a better deal if you insure your car and house with the same mob. Personally we have insured with CGU although have never had to claim *touch wood* so I can't say much for the policy except it worked out cheapest for what we wanted to insure

It will depend on where you live and even which suburb you live in. You will be able to organise it over the phone in a few minutes with who ever you go with. Grab the Yellow pages and away ya go.

Suncorp, GIO, SGIO, RAC, HBF, Allianz etc

Allianz.
http://www.allianz.com.au/

I have motor insurance (x2) and home and contents insurance with them. They're very competitive - well they were for me, and they're very helpful on the phone too.

Unhappy Re: House contents insurance in Australia

The level of the premium is becoming almost irrelevant.
My renewal notice has just arrived: $359 premium.

Plus $63 levy for the fire services....

Plus $41 for stamp duty...

Plus broker feee $51...

Plus $47 GST...

So the $359 increases to $562 total!

I am aware that NRMA can be very good at paying out on claims, but we are with AAMI.

Annual premium $516 for Building and Contents including all taxes etc.

I've got contents insurance with CGU (but got the policy online through ANZ) - I'm paying $20 a month (but don't own much!).

It's difficult comparing quotes without saying exactly what the property is worth aswell

And of course different areas attract different premiums, and the No Claims Discounts etc etc
