Are you allowed to buy property in Australia if you are not a permanent resident..???

Yes, but you need FIRB approval (a formality really) and you must buy a new build.

Certain categories of foreign nationals, temporarily resident in Australia continuously for more than 12 months, may be given approval to purchase developed residential real estate for use as their principal place of residence (ie, not for rental purposes) while in Australia.
