house building

We are wanting to but acearge land and build a house on it. Has anyone done this? Are there any hidden costs? Any advice would be good.

We are in the initial stages of acreage building. Not much to report yet but feel free to subscribe to this thread -

Poster "Wol" has built on acreage in NSW, do a search on threads started by him to find the details.

Did It a while ago :)

No hidden costs really as long as you take driveway, landscaping and stuff like that into consideration. But I guess it also depends on the builder.

Just done it, and just about to do it again.

Acreage wise.

If you buy the land, very often you will be responsible for:

electricity from street to within say 6m of house.
water tanks pump etc for the home, unless you are on town water
bio-cycle for waste, dependant on state

all up, will add about 30-40k to house price.

Acreage, usually you get as Merlin said, driveway, landscaping, alfresco concrete, etc etc done at your expense.

Allow for sheds, cos you will need 1 perhaps 2 but deffo 1

We've done it too.

Also allow for fencing if you have animals.

We needed ride-on mowers, chain saw and large whipper snipper, plus trailer to take rubbish to tip.

Possible delays in getting phone line.

Deliveries of anything cost more if you live up a high enough hill.
