Default Hong Kong airport hotels

Can anyone help me? My daughter is flying via hong kong when she comes to visit in Feb. Has anyone got any advice as to hotels in or around the airport.
She is not hugely well off, but i dont like the thought of her landing there on her own with my 2yr old gandaughter and having to wade through rip off taxi drivers or train routes whilst carting around loads of luggage.

Somehwere very close to airport with good reputation, easy access and clean and respectable. I tried an online search and all i got n hte airport was a very expensive place charging well over 100 quid per night.
When me and hubby stoped over in Malaysia we got a 5 star hotel for 40 quid!!

Any ideas?

Hi,

I'm not sure that there are really any airport hotels near the airport because of its location. (Sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong!)

When we stopped over in April this year we stayed at the Salisbury YMCA which is in a great situation right next to the Peninsular Hotel ( very expensive!). It was cheap but perfectly OK and I would definitely recommend it. We booked transfers (at the same time as booking the room) which involved getting a bus for about 30 minutes. It was very easy - just went up to a desk at the airport, gave our name - they gave us a ticket, escorted us to the transfer bus and it took us to the YMCA door.

Transport round Hong Kong on the Underground system is really easy - we were very impressed.

Will see if I can find a link for the YMCA for you.

Hi there

There are lots of hotels in HK which are quite reasonable. When I was last there I stayed at the South Pacific hotel and the Wharney Hotel in Wanchai. The Wharney is quite central and it's easy to get around from there. Ask your daughter to have a look in the Qantas brochure.

The taxis are very safe in HK so you should have to worry about that. They are all metered so you don't get ripped off. Most of the airport taxi drivers speak English.

Good luck.

The train from the airport to Hong Kong island is incredible. From getting off the plane we were on the train in 15 mins without going up any stairs or escalators. There are plenty of hotels near either of the stations that will be a small cab fare away.

I stayed at the Novotel Harbourview on Hong Kong island which is cheap, good and has a pool on the roof. To get anywhere we had to use a bus but that was not much hassle. You can also check in for Cathay pacific at the airport railway station on HK island.

If your daughter is only staying a night she might be able to book her baggage all the way through. Get her to phone the airline.

BTW the airport is very new and is on an island a long way from Kowloon or Hong Kong island. A taxi ride would be very expensive.

I live in Hong Kong, so maybe I can help?

There is only one hotel at the airport, its called the Regal Airport Hotel. It is right next door to the terminal and you can walk there in 5 mins!

Whilst being very close to the terminal, and actually very nice, it is quite expensive and 100 Quid a night is about the correct rate as quoted!

If your daughter is here for only 1 day, being stuck at the airport hotel will mean she won't see anything of this wonderful city.

Far better to get down town and stay in a more central location. A few posters have mentioned some options, YMCA being a very good idea due to the location in Tsimshatsui.

If you give me an idea of her budget, I could ask a mate of mine who works in the hotel industry for some sugguestions.

Your daughter can be assured of a very safe time in Hong Kong, there are no real dangers for her here. The transport system is the envy of the World and the shopping is great.

There are a couple of areas to avoid shopping though and I would be happy to send you a PM with the places to avoid getting ripped-off.

Please let me know if I can be of any assistance.

(BTW it can be quite cold here in February)

Cheers & Happy New Year!

WOW..thanx for all your help and advice... especially you Paddy...

Last night my ex phoned me ( daughters father) and said he would pay for her to stay at the Regal. The fact that she has a 2yr old in tow and is travelling alone, we thought it better to pay the extra and let her stay there, to make life easier.
I know it means she wont get to see the city, but knowing my daughter, she will be so tired out after travelling, she wont be up for touring!...

Anyway..thanx again everyone.

As you can see, I am very busy here at work......er.......playing with the internet.

Anyway, if she is going to stay at the Regal Airport, she could still see some of Hong Kong by jumping on the Airport Railway and getting off in Central, which is the last stop (Hong Kong Island).

The trip takes 23 mins and once in Central she could look around, do a bit of shopping, go up to Victoria Peak to see the city views etc. All of this can be done in a day!

Assuming she arrives late in the afternoon from Heathrow, she could have a good nights rest in the hotel and then spend the next morning and most of the afternoon around Central.....then take the train back to the Airport to collect her cases and board for Australia.

Normally flight to Oz leave in the evening from Hong Kong.

I work in Central and live very close to the airport, (a place called Tung Chung), so if she needs any specific advice or assistance I would be pleased to help out!

Cheers.

The train is incredibly efficient and I would highly recommend what Paddy the Pilot is suggesting. Viewing Hong Kong from the peak is amazing.

I agree, the view is worth seeing. She may regret it if she doesn't, unless she gets another chance later.
