It's not!! The prices are scary when you're earning Aussie $.
That's why an awful lot of Aussies have never been anywhere!
We wanted to go over to QLD, so we got a price; $1600 each flights. (there's 4 of us) $120.00 per night at a Big 4 park. Car hire. spending money.
So we're not going at the mo. I'm a skint student, I'll have to wait until I'm working.

You can get cheap flight to NZ and Fiji with virgin blue.
Jetstar are going to start flights to Thailand Japan and a few other places so this might get the price down a little.

When you first get here and are still in £1=$2.5 converter mode it won't seem that expensive but give it a year or two and it will feel like you need to take a mortage out to go anywhere. Something else people forget to take into account is the distances involved and the time it takes to get anywhere worth going to, when you have a little nipper involved these long flight soon become a huge burden.
