Holiday home
Does anyone have any experience of buying a home in Oz and living in the UK. I know it sounds silly but deciding to try and make the break from the UK is proving to be difficult. We would like to eventually move out to Oz and we have the money to invest in a property over there now. We visited in November of 2002 and fell in love with the country and the people. We visited a couple of estate agents in Cairns and they told us that it maybe easier to buy property being part of the commonwealth. I would really like some good advice on what I need to do !

There is nothing to stop anyone buying a property in australia EXCEPT if you are not a permanent resident you can ONLY buy a brand new property (that has never been slept in) AND this property must be only half of the development of THAT builder. i.e. He must have at least two properties of a similar type to sell.
If you have a visa for MORE than 12 months you can then buy a second hand property but youi have to get a permit - on that particular property - first from the government (takes about 4 weeks)

Does that mean that I can find property being developed and go ahead and buy it ? Do you have to keep the rental etc in Australia and would you have to pay tax on profit in the UK ? Does this make it any easier to emigrate at a later date if you continue to invest in the Australian economy ?
