Cheaper to look at the last minute sites though as the rooms can be a bit pricey!!!

good luck!

Some of us had a girls weekend down in Sydney in Feb and stayed in goldsborough apartments - really nice and they have studio and 1 bed apartments and are right next to Circular Quay. http://www.theoaksgroup.com.au/Property.aspx?sid=1

Go on lastminute.com.au and wotif.com for last minute deals - you can get really flash rooms for not much money.

try stopping off in Coffs Harbour for beach, or if you prefer rainforest, turn off on the south side of Coffs and head inland to Bellingen. (Coffs is about 400k south of Brisbane CBD, and Sydney CBD is about 980 - so it is roughly half way)

You can def do the drive in one go (if 2 are driving) but why hurry? It takes about 12 hours (on a good day) and longer if you hit traffic / accidents / roadworks.

I'd certainly suggest Coffs Harbour as the midpoint. But there are a lot of nice places all the way.

Hi, we did this drive in a very leisurely fashion a couple of years ago and stopped off at Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie. I can't remember the name of the Coffs Harbour hotel but we stayed at the Observatory Apartments in Port Macquarie which were a real find. Very close (across road) to the beach and 5/10 minutes walk to the shops/restaurants.

We also spent a night in the Northen Beaches before going into Sydney city and we stayed at Jonah's - definitely worth staying at if you get the chance.

In Sydney itself we have stayed at the Shangri-La and the Park Hyatt. My preference is the Park Hyatt due to the stunning views and the ability to sit outside on your own balcony (we watched the QE2 come in from here in Feb). I have been to the Observatory but never stayed there. I have heard good things about it but it's very 'country house hotel' in styling whereas I prefer something that looks a bit more modern. It's an Orient Express hotel though (as is Lilianfels in the Blue Mountains which is also very nice) so if you choose to stay there the service levels should be very good.

Hope this helps!
