I dont blame you, there is another interesting thread concerning the water shortages on this forum, I cant believe they havent had the foresight by now to do something about it!!! It will be a case of too little too late by the time they do something. I'll be getting in a plumber to syphon water from the neighbours

It's been so long since it rained here I can't remember it. They were forecasting rain for yesterday morning, but it clouded over for about an hour before the sun came out and it got hot again. The long range forecast for SA is a wetter than average winter, so there is hope. Let's just see if it materialises.

But they still let you waste water by pouring it onto the grass!
You're still allowed to fill your swimming pool.
The councils are still watering the verges and roundabouts.

Madness.

Water theft is actually on the rise. There was a reported case just last week in QLD - someone had half inched half the water in a rugby club's tank (several thousand liters).

Tough times indeed.

Fortunately we are on rainwater for drinking and the tank (20,000 liters) is still pretty full.

For everything else we are on bore water, worrying in the long run if water does not seep down to replenish the underground reserves though.

As a matter of interest, how do you ensure that the rainwater from the tank is clean and safe enough to drink? Can the borewater be drunk too?

My parents water bill for our beachhouse went through the roof inexplicably, even though they had barely stayed there that quarter. We spoke to the water board but as we couldn't prove it was theft, we had to pay the bill. Luckily we had a mate who was able to provide us with some special locks for the garden taps. Problem solved and now our neighbour is having to find an alternative means of watering his garden....

The rainwater supply goes through a double filter ,one is a carbon/sediment filter, the other a much finer one that filters out finer pollutants and metals.

The borewater can be drunk but it is a little saline and does have a lot of dissoleved minerals. That passes through a softener as well :-)
