Unhappy Hiya

Hello everyone my name is Ann-marie, me, my husband and 3 children arrived in melbourne 10 months ago. My husband found work quite quickly, but i have been unable to find work, i am feeling really depressed at moment. I also feel guilty about husband earning all of the money. I am living in sunbury, i wondered if any living near by. I am really missing family back in uk but feel as though i have to be strong for rest of the family. So i do my crying in private. I do really like it here and want to make it a good life. Sorry for burdening you all with this.

Hi Ann-marie,

I've been here for 8 months, I live in Melboune. I go through dark days too so you're not alone. Whilst I don't live in Sunbury I'm happy to meet for a coffee in the city? I live here with my Aussie husband, we don't have children yet but we're hopefully going to be trying by the Spring. I'm happy to lend an ear.

Hi Ann Marie, sorry to hear its not working out to well.

You can check out Britvics site to which is specific for Melbourne folks, maybe you could go on the girls night out coming up soon.

Hang in there Ann-Marie - There are loads of folk moved to Oz struggling to find work (guys and gals). I am Ozzie and it took me over 5 months to get my first work!!! Lasted 2 months - now doing temp work. It is easier after you have had one job. You could possibly do some volunteer work to get you out and about - I would have signed up for RSPCA if I hadn't found the work I did - one day a week, four hours a day I think.....

It is depressing, but then I tried to think there are others much worse off (healthwise or other) and pick myself up again on that. Some days are very hard though, moreso if you can't get out to meet other people. I don't live in Melbourne but I am sure others do and can be of more help.

Ann- marie, dont ever feel you are a burden.
We all have good days and bad days, just as we would anywhere.
Only back home we have family, which we dont have here.
YOU work full time at home with the kids, so dont feel guilty about being at home. I have just returned to work after having my youngest and he is 8 now.
It is nice to be contributing, but it never bothered me when i wasnt, I have had a full time job with all my brood.
We are always here to listen to you. Denise xx

Blimey Ann-Marie, raising children is the hardest and most important job in the world, (as I am sure you know!). It can feel isolated at times and boring too. But it can be an instant "club", you have stuff in common with all those other Mums. Dont expect too much from yourself, try to go out for a walk each day, voluntary work is cool and you will meet allsorts of people too. How about neighbours? I know you cant really moan to them, but hey thats what we are here for! hugs to you from another Anne-Marie. x

Speaking as a man, who has taken a couple of years out to help raise his children, I can tell you raising children is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay harder than any job I have ever had, way more enjoyable too. To Ann-Marie and any other women out there feeling they arent contributing, drop that notion immediately, you are all doing a superb job, if children were raised by men, we would have a very under populated world. Its some of the hubbies who should feel they arent contributing not the wives. It can be hard sat on a building site till.....2.30 joking, with your mates, and drinking tea, but its nowhere near as hard as raising two under threes, especially when one is poorly. Keep your chin up Ann-Marie, you could be getting ready for another 9 month winter back in the UK.

Oh huni....don't be down...it will all work out. I have a four year old and I actually went out to work when he was a couple of months old because it was easier than being a housewife!! You are doing a marvellous job and I take my hat off to you looking after three kids! I don't live in Melbourne, but there are plenty of great people here who do and don't feel guilty, put ya feet up and enjoy the break

Good luck

It is just a suggestion, and unfortunately due to my being in Perth I cant help you personally with it,but if you are seriously wanting a good job you would enjoy, go to a good resume writing service and get a professionally made resume to start with. They should also give you intro letters, advice on how to use the resume to its best advantage(there are allot of misconceptions about this) and interview advice. It is something I am in the process of starting up here but like I said I am in Perth so not much use to you on the geographical scale. A good resume doesnt cost they actually pay in the long run

what a darling you are, i wish more men out there realised how we have a full time job at home, then go out to another job. Not that im complaining, i love being a wife and mum and looking after them all. But i like to be appreciated sometimes.
