Hiring a car for a week?

Popping over for a week next month, landing in sydney and to get a real idea of the place want to drive to melbourne, most people think i'm mad but i've never been there before and i really want to appreciate as much as i can.

Where is best to rent a car in sydney, ideally able to leave it in melbourne too.

Any idea of costs would be good too.

Many thanks,

Mat

I'd try Thrifty - www.thrifty.com.au. I've always found them cheaper than the other national chains. There will be stacks of local Sydney car hire places, but if you want a one way rental then your choices will probably be limited to the big boys.

Easy to do - hire a car at the airport and leave it at the other airport. I am sure that all the hire companies are fine with you picking up in one city and leaving in another. I tend to use Budget or Avis but they are all much of a muchness these days IMHO. Just be careful not to get a hire with a limited km allowance - it is a bl**dy long way from Sydney to Melbourne (about 10 - 11 hours straight). May I hope that you plan on calling in on our beautiful national capital city on the way - just a little detour after Goulburn and then rejoining the Hume at Yass.
