Although the first thing I'll do when i get my visa is get an account with commonwealth bank and find out what their rate is if it's competative I think I'll go with them

I would like to of used my bank (hsbc) but their rate is poor and they want 20% deposit for a forward contract. :scared:

Just to let you know the Commonwealth Bank will open an account even if you don't have your visa. At least they have for us :) Just incase you wanted to get things moving now :)

I have used both HIFX and Tranzfers several times: the rate does seem a tad better with HIFX and you do get instant rate confirmation.

However, I have to say that, with a 12 month contract with them for sending my pension over, in about eight transactions so far two have gone AWOL. the first because the guy who did it was on leave, the second last month only came through after a couple of weeks delay and after several phone calls. The receiving bank had no record of an attempt being made on time so all I can think is that someone put the wrong BSB number in. I have to say the Sydney office were very helpful in sorting it out though.

Luckily we don't depend on the money getting through on time but some people might be in difficulty with such delays.
