Hi,
My OH and I have just began the long process of moving to Oz - Just hired Go Matilda to help us out and are about to embark on the dreaded TRA!
I am far too excited about the whole thing and I just cannot wait to move out there! I need to try and calm down and be sensible as I know that the whole process can take over a year to complete.
I regularly come on here and browse through all the different threads - i have gotten so much useful info.
Does anyone have any good websites / links that they think I would find useful - OH and I are undecided about either a move to Sydney or Sunshine Coast. I would love to find out more info about jobs (I am a drugs / alcohol counsellor & OH is a locksmith) and any useful bits of info about practical stuff - e.g. I found out that our TVs wont work over there (something to do with the sound!).
Also - good luck to everyone going through the application process and well done to all of you that have already made it!

Hi there and welcome.
I'm sorry I don't know much the areas you are looking at but I'm sure some others will be able to help you.
I've found this website very helpful, I've asked loads of silly questions over the last few months and although your agent will deal with most stuff anyway, its nice to find others in same positions.

Hi there hears a link for you to look at housing market will keep you busy for a while www.realestate.com.au . By the way your tv will work in aus might need a bit of tuning but in general they do work good luck on your visa roller coaster

Good luck with the process. TRA is the hardest part (so they say, but I think the waiting is the hardest!).

Your TV will work in Aus if you receive programs through a digital receiver (ie. Foxtel).

Poms in Oz is a good site, there are a lot of people there either in or going to the Sunshine Coast. We are hopefully going to Adelaide so I don't know anything about either. Except think there is a big bridge thing in Sydney.......

I read somewhere that our TV wouldnt work over there because of sound frequencies or something - I wasnt too happy as we have recently bought a jammy dodger flat screen TV that cost us a fair few bob and I didnt relish the thought of leaving it behind - so your info about tvs is very good news for me!
Thanks for the link re: housing too - this will no doubt get me even more excited looking at the lovely houses that you can get for your money over there compared the the equivalent priced shoeboxes over here!

who's occupation are you using only at the moment locksmiths are not getting through the TRA stage through lack of qualifications or have things changed?

I do know there are plenty of jobs in both those areas for locksmiths so that wont be a problem and my OH has been told to bring all his specialist locksmith tools with him..Also locksmiths don't need a license at the moment but they may well be bring it out in the near future so look out for that

We are using my OH occupaction as a locksmith. He did a City and Guilds in Locksmithing around 2 yeasr ago and so we are hoping that this is going to help us!

just wondered if you have any info on the wages of a losksmith, i dont seen to be able to find out. OH is a Carpenter and thinking of undertaking his training to be a locksmith. i was just wondering if it would be more money for ether job.

Drugs counselling, is more prevalent I would presume.. in sydney than sunshine coast..

Mind you , you could counsel the backpackers on their southerly migration, whilst in sunny coast..

all the answers to these and many more.. will define what area suits you best..
