Default Hi all :) getting a bit scared about moving from perth to queensland :/

Hi all, not really any advice you can give me just wanted to get this off my chest we planned on moving from perth to queensland, sunshine coast 1st choice...i popped over in july and went up as far as noosa and down as far as currumbin, weve been in perth for 2 1/2 years now and just fancied giving 'the otherside' a go, weve had the house up for sale now for a while but its very quiet, now im worrying!!! everyone keeps telling me the weathers much nicer here, we wont get jobs or a nightmare finding a rental, now i am crapping myself wondering if i should just stay here where im safe??? im just being a coward i think and with the housing market being slow its giving me too much time to worry!!! anyway thanks for listening :/

We were in Perth and then returned to UK last year. We have decided to give Brisbane a go.....we will be renting our house out here and renting there Im worried about the rentals etc as we have two dogs, luckily my best mate lives there so we have a base for a few weeks.

We are going to try and secure work before we go as I dont think its a good idea in this economy to go hoping to get a job, the recruitment agencies have told us things are very quiet at the moment. My OH is Project Manager what does yours do?

Im sure it will be fine as you have an idea of what its like etc there.

I grew up in Perth, then lived in Brisbane for 10 years and returned to Perth in January this year. We're now living in Dubai and will be here for a couple of years probably. We'll be returning to Brisbane - I love the climate, there are more opportunities for our kids and not as isolated as Perth. Perth's a pretty city and I love to go home every few years, but can't spend too long there without going a bit stir crazy. Brisbane is a great place to live.

Hi Dawn
Can you go over for an extended "holiday" while your house is on the market and spend some time looking for jobs etc?

One person's perfect weather is another person's nightmare. Also there is huge rivalry between all the states so people saying the things they are, are just as likely to be wind ups as much as truth (from their perspective).

Tough call Dawn, but i would stick to your plans. The housing market is a worry, took me 9 months to sell mine and dropped it 40K to get shut of it.

I liked Brisbane too and would love to try there, but at this moment in time i have to go back to UK for family issues.

Hey, we could all meet up in Brissy next year LOL..and you Kath

Hi Dawn :0)

You've done it once and you can do it again.....it's just that now you probably realise what you're undertaking!

We relocated to Queensland from Adelaide and I did have a rotten time settling in, once again I'd give it two years to feel at home, find your way without refering to the refidex, know where that certain shop is to buy that unusual item and most importantly have a friend apon whose shoulder you can cry.

Snap... I think 2 years is about right... have moved counties within the UK a couple of times (3 to be exact) in the last 14 years and now moved to tother side of the world.. each time it has taken 2 years to feel at home and each time I know that I can be done, it just takes time..

I just have to keep reminding myself of it !

Dawn, can you afford to rent your house out while you go over east? At least then you have a fall back plan and, if you can do it, you can sell your house later when the market is in a better state.

Well I have to say that when we worked it all out, it was cheaper to rent this house than to pay a mortgage on a house worth the same amount... cheaper by about 50% ! Me and OH were quite shocked actually!

Anyway, I digress!

PS Good luck with it all! xxxxx
