Toowoomba is perched high upon a mountain / volcano top.(Very stagnant)
It is like a large country town.
It has a pleasant atmosphere and a very safe place.
Great for bringing up children.
Gets cold in winter(By Aussie standards) I mean -3
They had large floods there a couple of years ago and were devastating.
its a good 1.5 hours drive into Brisbane but a pleasant drive all in all.
If your living in england then trust it is like paradise in comparision.

Toowoomba is the largest regional centre west of Brisbane with a population of around 130,000. It has all the services and facilities that one would expect to find in a large town/small city. It is located at the top of the eastern scarp of the Great Dividing Range and the road approach from Brisbane and the coast is up a steep winding hill: breakdowns and rollovers block the road on occasions in one direction or the other (separate roads go up and down). This road continues through the town and is the only main road from Brisbane to the Surat Basin gas developments, so traffic can often be a nightmare.
Skytrans run a scheduled flight service between Toowoomba and Brisbane on Wednesdays and Sundays (Brisbane-Toowoomba at 7:45am, return at 3:45pm) and flights Bris-Toowoomba at 9:00am Mon and Thurs, Toowoomba-Bris at 4:50pm Tues and Friday (those flights take all day to hop up to Mt Isa via all the small towns and return the same way next day). There is also a daily flight weekdays between Toowoomba and Sydney (twice on Wednesdays).
Driving to Brisbane will take 2 hours plus (the 'plus' depends on the time you are travelling as you will have to use the road between Ipswich and Brisbane which is one of the worst traffic jams in the area at peak times). Always allow plenty of time if you are driving in for a specific appointment (catch a flight, go to the theatre, etc).
The main railway to the west passes through Toowoomba but there is no passenger service on this line - pity.
Toowoomba is well known for the Carnival of Flowers which is held at the end of September each year.
All in all, a good place to live. Easy access west to the Darling Downs and north to the Sunshine Coast.

FYI, it was the freight services that were removed after the 2011 qld flood not the passenger services though looking shaky unless they put the freight back onto the rail where it belongs.
