Default HELP Visas due to expire

Anybody managed to extend their visas without being in Oz.
We have validated residency visas that are due to expire June 2007, however we are in England and the time is not right to return to Oz, anybody have any advice on anyway to extend these without being in Oz.
Any help would be extremly welcomed
thanks

I think you'll find Gina is right. You are given 5 years and the way DIMIA see it is that if you cannot get organised in that time then you cant come. Not sure if it's possible to apply all over again though, maybe this is a way.

Oh sure, that *is* possible: once the visas have expired, s/he can apply all over again provided he meets the conditions in place then for a visa.

Better start filling in the forms again.
Seems a waste of visas to just have them sitting there though.

This happened to friends of ours and they HAD to validate by the date given. In the end, with house unsold, no money etc they got a visa card and paid for flights and short hol in Sydney on that (only a week)! When they got back, the house sold and they paid off all their debts inc visa card and are now happily living here near Sydney! It was stressful at the time, but the last email I got said it was well worth it!

They could try....but given the brief lengh of time that they will have spent in Aus, I doubt DIMA would grant more than the 3 month one.......their time in Aus doesn't really show "commitment" to the country

The DIMIA also get really annoyed with people using the migration process as a backstop.

ouch!
some harsh replies there ... none of us know what is round the corner that can make life changing decisions for you, i for one can testify to that, and other more personal stuff may have ahppened to delay a return that the OP doesnt want to share with us ... so i think its a bit harsh to lay into them like that!

Having read your other post, looks like you have a couple of options.
- let the visa expire and then reapply when you are in a position to do so, although looking at your age, it may not be straight forward.
- you said your eldest is taking A levels - can they not just come back to the uk to sit their exams? teaching usually finishes around may so you could plan to move then, then all you need to do is book for him/her to come back to do the exams? Have a good read through some previous posts ... kids do adapt at all ages, from littlies right up to older teens - do they still want to move to aus? perhaps making provision for them to stay in the uk might be called for?
As you have a pr visa already, why not try and arrange work before you go, in an area you know? that way the scary feelings might be subdued a little and you may not be tempted to dash back to the uk. If you have a house, can you not give a close reli power of attorney to sort out the sale for you?
If I were you id try and find a way of getting to aus sooner rather than later ... or look at reapplying a few years from now when you know you can make the move permanently.
Dont forget you are also a little older, a little wiser now ... the knee-jerk reaction to go home may not be as strong.

And who knows, you might even find some supportive folks on here to offer you help, support and guidance. You might have to look hard though.

You have nearly another year to get yourself organised and get over, what's the problem?
