Help - toilets blocked
 

:scared: Anyone know how the sewerage pipes run in this country. In the UK we had a drain outside the back door which we could stick drain rods down. The toilets bubble when we are having a shower and now the one toilet is full, almost to the top, after flushing and not going down, and the other goes down very slowly. :scared: What is the best thing to do, we dont want to pay a fortune to have a plumber round if it is something we can do ourselves.

First thing I would do is get a bucket full of water and pour it quickly down the toilet when not completely full of crap. The sewerage pipe would run down the side of the house to the back fence and there should be somewhere an inspection plate that can be pulled up and maybe unblock.

But chuck buckets of water down first as this can quite often unblock most crap.

Thanks. We have found the inspection plate which is full of water, is that normal? We will have to go to Bunnings in the morning and buy something to unblock it.

Try sticking the hose down it and turn it on

pour a can or two of coke a cola down, that usually works, it's evil stuff ;)

Thanks for all the advice. Bloody typical, it would happen on a Friday night when it's pitch black outside and all the shops are closed. :( It was probably caused by the kids using half a toilet roll at each sitting.

What a nightmare. Cant use the toilets, sinks, showers, basically can't use anything with water. Water corp says we need to ring a plumber. Rang about 20, most not answering, a few too busy, one can come on Monday. We tried the hose pipe down the drain, not working. Tried a plunger, no good. :scared:

Got a plumber round. Turns out we have to have 6 palm trees and a conifer cut down around the pool if we want to avoid future problems. He reckons one of the palms has cracked the main sewerage pipe at the back corner of the property causing a slight blockage which is now backing up to the house. Great! :( It would have been cheaper if the kids had flushed a toilet roll :D . Just glad to know what it is and to be getting it sorted. I feel a bit sad to lose the lovely looking palms and the nice shade they provide over the pool, but, to be honest, they create alot of work in cleaning and some are getting too tall to cut off the dead branches.

How stressful. Still, at least it's all sorted now....the drain has been,unblocked, hasn't it? What did the plumber do? and how much did he/she charge you?

Seems ok for now, not sure if it is a quick fix and will block up again when we use the showers though. The toilets are fine. He used drain rods. He has not charged us yet as he is going to get a plan of the drain pipes on the property from the council/shire so that he can locate the drain at the end of the garden as it is totally overgrown where we think it is. We will probably have to have some trees chopped down first before he can get to the drain and see if it has been broken. What a performance.
