Default Help Storage Problems

Hi,

We're going to NZ in October but have managed to sell our property already, so we will probably go and stay with one of the families in the UK till we go.

As we won't be out there till sometime in October, then have to find a job and a place to live we were just wondering if any of the shipping companies can store our stuff in the UK for quite a while before actually shipping it out to us when we have finally decided where to settle down (If I can find a job etc).

Or would it be better to put our stuff into storage in the UK with a specialist Storage company, then get a shipping company to get it from the storage company?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Have you thought about getting the shipping company to pack it all up and ship it out before you go? This will be of benefit to you as it could take 10-12 weeks to get there. You can also negotiate some low storage rates if you want to store it out there until you arrive. Storage in the UK is much more expensive and I think you would pay less in NZ.

Also you won't have the problem of having to wait for your stuff to arrive, when you do leave it will be ready and waiting for you.

Hi!

We'll be in exactly the same situation in a few weeks time as our house sale should (!) be going through in Aug and we are going to NZ Oct/Nov time and staying with friends there for a while. I've spoken to a few companies (PSS, Allied Pickfords, Brittania, Bishops Move, John Mason) and they can all store our belongings in the UK before we leave, and in NZ too. The choice is ours when we want things to be shipped out.

They can ship out your belongings to NZ straight away if you choose that option (storage there is cheaper than in the UK) but it's better for you to be there when the goods arrive. The reason being is that if you are not, you have to nominate someone else to collect the goods (otherwise they sit in customs storage which is very ££) but your nominee will have to pay some kind of charge/tax - it is refundable but you have to submit paperwork and go through the 'claiming back' rigmarole. That's what we've been told anyway.

Hope that helps.

Good luck!

We're using Doree Bonner.They gave us 4 weeks storage free,then charged 30 pound a week after .
So far so good with them.
