Hi there
Myself and my partner are here in Oz on a working holiday visa which expires in April 2005. We really want to stay longer and are looking into sponsorship.
Alan is an electrician and the owner of the company who he is currently working for has said that he would sponsor him to stay - hooray!
However, we haven't got a clue how it works and I don't think the company has ever sponsored anyone before. Looking at the immigration website today, it looks like his boss has to register as a sponsor before we can apply??
I've also heard that there are lots of forms and paperwork involved. I think we would be looking at a class 457 visa??
I would have to claim de facto as I don't think I would qualify on the skills list. We have been together for over 7 years, so it shouldn't be a problem but most of the paperwork is at home in England (somewhere!).
Oh man, this is gonna be a headache, but it is something we both really want to do. We can't imagine going home any time soon.
So can anyone give any initial advice, guidelines, any useful websites or contacts??
Yours gratefully

I think maybe you want the Australia forum a bit lower down the page. They're the ones with the useful info. However, any time you feel like chatting with a bunch of complete lunatics, the Lounge is the place.
