Default HELP ! - Sense check these flight costs

Folks,

Juts got some quotes for London-Sydney return, for two adults and 3 anklebiters:

Emirates = £3195 (2 x adult 660, 3 x child 475, balance taxes)
Singapore = £3614 (adult 685, child 538, balance taxes)

Flying out in late March, back mid April.

Don't know why, but Singapore taxes are high.....guess it's 'cos they are
via Changi, whereas Emirates is via Dubai.

Anyone think these are about right, way over odds or darn cheap !???

These came from flight centre.......

Hmm, seems strange I'd pay the same if only doing LHR>DXB>SYD return....

Were Emirates any good.....what was in flight entertainment like.......

Anyone else think these flight costs are reasonable or am I being ripped off !

thanks

You can check for yourself by visiting any of these web sites:-

www.expedia.co.uk
www.travelocity.co.uk
www.opodo.co.uk
www.travelbag.co.uk

or numerous others.

You can then see exactly what is available at what price.

Cheers.

I'd say that's a reasonable price but I dare say a bit of shopping around could possibly find a little lower? (Just for comparison I recently tried Airline Network, Emirates, Glasgow to Melbourne in mid January and it came up about £850 for an adult). Emirates flights are usually UK-Dubai-Singapore-Oz but they have introduced direct flights from Dubai to Oz. These non stop flights from Dubai are more expensive than the touchdown in Singapore ones. Having flown Singapore twice and Emirates many more times than that my personal recommendation would be to choose Emirates every time FWIW. On second thoughts, don't Flight Centre guarantee to match any other fare you can find?

We didn't stop at any of those places (as such), just to change planes or refuel.
In flight entertainment was excellent. Personal screen, 18 channels (I think 5 movies, a couple of kids, some comedy / general entertainment and some foreign stuff), lots of games including a trivia game you play against the other passengers (I'm still wearing my crown ). Food and drink were excellent, as was the service. Couldn't really fault them at all to be honest. When we were looking at cost, they were certainly amongst the cheapest and the total flight time was only (only ) about 22 hours.

Oh, I meant to say quite a few agents were offering Emirates flights FROM £572 return in the broadsheets at the weekend for up to 30 June. March/April is not one of the cheaper times though, you would only get the headline fare in June. As Wayne said I couldn't quibble at the in-flight entertainment, food, service etc. The duty free shopping in Dubai is something else again too (Singapore over-priced in comparison on most things).

The point of these web-sites is that you don't need to call the travel agents, just book your flights through the web-site, assuming your details are straight forward.

QED.

We do it all the time and have never had a problem.

Your best bet is to follow this link-

http://res.travelocity.co.uk/lognlog...77521101127846

onto the Travelocity website. Enter your details and about half way down select 'my dates are flexible' . This will then bring up the cheapest flights, and more importantly let you know the cheapest times and dates to fly.

With this info you can then look on all the web-sites for the cheapest flights at the CHEAPEST TIMES AND DATES!

Hi Olibeneli

Although we are flying to Melbourne, this is what we are paying flying out end march returning mid april 2005:

Lon - Changi - Melbourne 3 adults (£615 ea) 1 child (£477) including visas
£2,382.00
Using singapore airlines
Tickets via the flight centre.

We booked our tickets 3 weeks ago.

Not much different to us and we trawled to get the best deal. Sounds good to me!! Hope this helps!!

As others have said, these prices aren't bad. But they're possibly not the cheapest either. Especially since March/April is off-peak and when the best deals tend to appear.

We flew Emirates last November, via Dubai and into Brissie for £535 each. Booked through Airline Network. It was one of the Emirates Mates Rates deal (ie two people travelling together). I've seen offers similar to this recently.

You can also try www.cheapflights.com for deals.

As for Emirates....I didn't like them I'm afraid. The fact that they left our luggage sitting on the runway in Dubai didn't help, but I wasn't that enthralled with the service/food/entertainment either.

Hi,

Special offer on Emirates until the end of this month, travelling between 28th March and 30th June.

I had a quote for Gatwick - Dub - Melbourne (Direct Dubai - Melbourne) and flying back from Brisbane via Singapore - Dubai - Gatwick. £573 Inc taxes for adults and £60 for one year old bambino, flying end of April.

Seems like quite a good deal and saves the trek up to Heathrow.

Cheers

Anyone doing Emirates from Gatwick (hiss spit, about as fond of them as Bundy is!) - make sure your return flight is to Gatwick, not Heathrow.May sound silly, but when I flew with them 3 years ago they only told me at the last minute, and made a comment like "funny, a lot of people are annoyed when we fly them back in to Heathrow" - so its obviously quite a common thing. The flight was LGW - DXB - SIN - MEL, but the route back was MEL-SIN-DXB-LHR.
