Default Help! Our TV doesn't work!!!

Morning folks
What a lovely day it is here on the Sunshine Coast Container has arrived along with our TV. Heaved the huge bliming thing into he living area to set it up ready for the delights of Aussie TV only to find it does not work! We get a picture but nosound! Any ideas anyone? Do we need to do something to it - have tried kicking it! Or is there a special cable or will it just not work?

Thanks for any advice

Do a search on here, you'll find you'll need a set - top box or a aussie dvd/video player to play the tv through.

Errrr. there'll be about 300 threads on this... The uk/oz pal tv signal is slightly different so you'll get no sound.

Now some tvs can be reconfigured, or you get a digi/sky type box and pump it though the scart socket.. or someone has just got a deadicate games tv

That's a good thing...you have emigrated, turn the thing off (or keep it off in your case)!

UK PAL-I
OZ PAL-B

If your tv can switch to any pal-b countries, then you might be in luck ( germany , denmark ,spain ... )

BTW set top boxes are now as low as 49 bucks now from Strathfeild, so you can get digital very cheaply, and the tv will work through that.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but talking of tv's, does anyone know how to connect headphones when there is no headphone point on the front. We bought a tv when we got here - just an 'old fashioned' one, not plasma or anything, and it has no headphone port. Thought headphone ports were standard on all tv's, if we'd have known we would have asked for one when buying it. When we went back the bloke in the shop says most tv's are not made with a headphone port and we will have to use cables from the back in those red/yellow points (I haven't got a clue as you can tell). We get conflicting advice from different shops, one said no way, can't be done, another said we'll have to buy and amplifier. Have tried with various cable configurations at the the back of the tv to no avail. Is it just not possible?

Yes it can be done, via the AV out connections, but you will need an adapater. Assuming it has those yellow white and red av connections of course. Even if its a UK tv with Scart connections there will be adapters available somewhere, Jaycar would definitely have them. The adapater will connect to the AV out socket and turn into a 3.5ML headphone adapater.

Best place to go, is Jaycar, Tandy or Dick smiths and explain your problem, the adapter should cost less than 15 bucks.

Does he know what has happened to her? Will she live or die?? Mayor stuff!!!
We have tried putting it through the DVD which is Aussie but again no sound (although I don't have much confidence in my OH's understanding of this stuff!!). I think we will give it another go and then if not try the DIGI box thing. How do we know if we can change our PAL thinkg? Will it be listed in the instructions (that I can't find in all the boxes!!!)? Thanks guys.

you need something that has a tuner in it, set top box or video recorder.

Yea we have tried doing it through our DVD player but still no sound. I think we will have to buy a set top box or something and hopefully that will work. Do you know if there is a special way to wire the DVD player to the turner. Wejust connected the wires up like normal and then set the TV to find all the channels - which it did, but still no sound.
Thanks again
Michelle

unless the DVD player is a recorder too it won't work. Set top boxes are not expensive, just go and buy a cheapie.
