I used Bayswater Car Rentals http://www.bayswatercarrental.com.au/ when I was in Sydney. I found them superb value and good (if basic) service. They were substantially cheaper than the usual round of Avis, Budget, Thrifty etc (who, incidentally, are all worthy options) as the fleet entirely consisted then of white Toyota Corolla's. You could choose between manual and auto and that was it in terms of fancy options.

Vroom Vroom searches lots of different Car Rental companies for the best price, and also provide preferential prices.

We got a Mitsubishi Outlander for 20 days for £500! Thrifty are the provider.

Try www.eastcoastcarrentals.com.au for Brisbane they were the cheapest for us but we were looking for 90day hire.
