You could contact Kate at movingtomelbourne she may be able to help you.

Melbourne is a very large sprawling city so have a think about what area you would like, i e hills, beach, flat, undulating. How long you would like to commute to work etc this can then get the best out of your reccie. Otherwise you will be spending most of your days in the car thttp://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/ site which has all the public transport routes on it. Then do a google earth out from the city and have a look around. Most of Melbourne is on street level on google earth although its not up to date but it will give you an idea.

Its a hundred km from my place to the airport so that will tell you how sprawling it is.

There are suburbs in Melbourne I have never visited and I have lived in Melbourne over thirty years.

Good luck

Many thanks for your response. Ideally we are looking for an area which is semi rural and family orientated. Access to public transport and good schools are important. Can you recommend any useful websites.

Semi Rural would be the Mornington Peninsula on one side of the bay and say Torquay on the other but they are two hundred kilometres apart so its a bit hard to say.

I am biased of course because I love living on the Peninsula and we live on a semi rural block.

There are a lot of farm stay and b and bs around but they are pricey.

http://www.stayz.com.au/accommodatio...las/mornington may help you.
