Default Help a desperate woman

We should arrive in Melbourne around the 1st October. As usual we are not very organised and have not yet decided where to live. One of our major considerations is our daughter who is almost 19. She is leaving a big social circle of friends and she enjoys socialising and nightclubbing. We also have a 12 year old boy who needs good schools and a decent area where he can play out.

Glen Waverley came out top on top on paper, but when I visited it I didn't get the right vibes for us as a family...... no offence to anyone in Glen Waverley. I like Rowville, Berwick, Narre Warren South and Mornington, all of which may be a bit far out from the CBD and not sure if they have a roaring nightlife!

Any other suggestions from people would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone has teenage daughters who would e-mail my daughter to let her know there is a life outside Manchester UK I would be very very grateful.

Many thanks ...... lots of replies please I am a desperate woman ..... time is ticking!!!

Have to agree with you about Glen Waverley. It can get quite rough at night. There are a lot of cars damaged and burglaries.
I worked in Narre Warren for a year and my girlfriends all seemed to have very good nights out in the area. Narre / Berwick are younger area's so there are plenty of teenagers although because of certain trouble the council is looking at putting a night time curfew on. Especially on the Cranbourne side! Out of the two places I think that Berwick is a little more civilized.
Mornington is a big favourite for the Poms. It is a lovely seaside town and if it wasn't so far from the CBD we would look at moving there. I am not sure whether it is an older community though.
sorry I can't help you on Rowville.
Good luck with all the planning it suddenly comes up very fast doesn't it

Hi there

Sorry I'm not living in Melbourne so I can't really help but from what I hear it's a great place, apart from the snow they had last week

I hear that Melbourne is really the Manchester of Australia. It has a massive music scene and loads going on, a bit like Madchester was I guess. If nothing your daughter can watch the AFL for all the blokes with their tiny shorts, boy do they look uncomfortable!

You should get a few replies from the Melbournites now as they should be waking up, turning on their computers and finally getting in to work!

Good luck

Will

My cousin has just moved to Williamstown, a very happening place apparently (very close to CBD and beaches)! But then the property prices seem to reflect this also!

Good luck!

If you end up around Rowville/Wantirna/Scoresby area then there is a nightlife at Knox City.

The place is heaving with 19/20 year old kids. There are a few bars and clubs in the O Zone area and lots of loud music!

I went to the movies there one Saturday night and couldn't believe how the atmosphere had changed from when I went in at 7.30pm to when I walked out at 10.00pm! Everyone had arrived while I was happily enjoying my movie. We were going to get a drink in the Irish pub next door to the cinema, but there was a queue a mile long, so we gave up on that idea!

Hope this helps

Brunswick and Carlton are happening places, but are pretty expensive.

Yarraville and Seddon are also pretty trendy- not sure how many 19 year olds abound though. (avoid nasty Footscray)

Also Camberwell is a good place- but also very expensive to live!
