Thumbs down HELP!!! Container Dirty

Our stuff arrived in Freemantle on the 8th of November and
i have just received a phone call from Kent removals in Perth.

They want me to fork out $275 plus gst because quarantine said the outside of my container is covered in soil, and i have to pay them to clean it before it can be inspected

Is this normal or are they pulling a fast one

Jo

Excess are coming to take our stuff next Thurs. Going thru the paperwork I've noticed that AQIS may want to clean the container at your expense. However, Excess guarantee that they will pay for this. Check with your movers that they offer the same guarantee. Good luck.

It is normal practice for anyone ordering a container for loading to specify clean, dry and watertight. I would suggest you go back to PSS and tell them what's happened and ask how it is your container has managed to get dirt on it... This is their responsibility... Ask them to contact their agents in Perth (Kent) to sort the problem out...

iPom is an unknown quantity at this point

We paid an insurance amount (I think it was 10 UK pounds) so that if AQIS did say our container was dirty, then the company (Doree Bonner) would swallow the cost.
I'm afraid if you don't insure against it, then it's your duty to pay for it. It should be mentioned in your paperwork, and if it isn't, I'd want to know why the company in the UK didn't inform you about it before hand. They should have done.

Jo, as iPom says, unless you're covered for this specifically in your agreement with your UK removals company or it's been covered in your shipping insurance, you'll have to pay the cost. Your shipper should have made you aware of the very slight possibility of this happening - check you paperwork from them to see if there's any mention.

Rgds,
Nicky
