Just be warned that 2nd hand cars are a lot dearer than in the UK. Anything cheap will have very high KM's.
We just bought a small car as a 2nd car, it's a 1999 Toyota Echo (Yaris in the UK) and we paid $8000. I have not seen any other Echo's as cheap as that, normally $10,000 +.
You can look on the Quokka web site

RAC web site, look for buying a used car.

The dealers are all together in various areas. Albany Highway (Vic Park) has heaps of dealers, mostly main stream dealers, with higher prices and newer car.
Wangara (north up the Waneroo road) has also lots of main dealerships, but also on Prinderville Drive and around that area, (Next to the dealerships) there are lots of smaller car sales. Usually they have the cars the main dealers don't want, slightly older, higher miles, but this is where you will get a car at a lower price.
DON'T BE A FRAID TO HAGGLE THE PRICE. They are all over priced on the window and will drop if you have cash and no trade in. Evey car has the details of the car in the window (by law) which gives the price and milage etc of the vehicle.
One big dealer/car sales in Perth is John Huges http://www.skipper.com.au/site/
This dealer has loads to choose from and every price range you can think of. They have top end luxury, down to the 'bunkies' something much cheaper that they have traded in. They are not too pushy and will direct you to the correct area for the type of car and price you're looking for.
Cheers
Neil.
