I was promised free financial advice (Yeah ) and resettlement (yeah yeah) both of which I was way ahead of them on the internet.
Total waste of £3000 if you ask me.
Obviously this is on hind sight after discovering how relatively easy the system is.
Might set up a migration company meself.

Like Bondi said there's some good ones and some bad ones. Guess you got a bad one by the sounds of it!

Think I paid about £1,500 in total including ACS RPL assessment.

My mother married an Austalian and has lived there for over 10 years, in fact she now is an Austalian citizen.................will his help? Also what is the quickest way of getting out there? Can i apply for a visitors visa and go out to stay with my Mum until my "proper" visa comes though?? Would it be easier if I had a job to go to? (I have some family connections!) Help me if you can - i feel a little bewildered by all of the forms etc on the Government web site! Has anyone employed a migration specialist? Does this speed things up?
Look forward to hearing from anyone soon!
Tina
Tina, I don't know of the time it will take for different visas.. but if your mum is a citizen (even a PR holder) she can sponsor you... family sponsorship. Ask your questions in the immigration forum. there's an agent in there who may be able to answer your questions (Alan)

I'm only a PR holder and I can sponsor my family members if need be. Your mum being a citizen can sponsor you

cheers

Don't you still have to meet the points test with skills etc even if you are sponsored or has it changed?

There is the balance of family visa if you are the last relative in UK. That would be a quickie I should think.

As Ceri has said your mother can sponsor you, but before she can do that you must identify which permanent residency visa you are looking at.

In other words she can't simply sponsor you for a visa on the basis that you are a child of an Australian.

Most who are over the age of 18 are looking at a skilled visa. Your mother can sponsor you for a Skilled - Family Sponsored visa (there are two subclasses of family sponsored visa, the choice depends on where your family sponsor lives), but you will still need to satisfy the basic requirements of a skilled visa application, which includes:

- nominating a skilled occupation from the Skilled Occupations List
- obtaining a positive skills assessment before you lodge your visa application
- meeting the requirements as to recent work experience, and
- passing a points test (save for one of the family sponsored visas - the Skilled Designated Area Sponsored visa - when the points test doesn't apply).

Have a look here as well:
http://www.immi.gov.au/migration/ski...quirements.htm

There's quite a lot to consider, and if you'd like an initial freebie discussion with me or one of the Go Matilda team please feel able to contact us - details are here:

Hope this helps.
