Healthcare IT Job - Looking to Migrate
Hi guys,
Hopefully you’ll be able to help me out…
I’m looking to migrate to Australia in a couple of years but unsure as to whether I’m eligible or not under the Skilled Independent (Migrant) Visa (subclass 175) I currently work in healthcare IT as a Product Specialist and have done so since August 2004. This has gave me the opportunity to work with many different PAS and clinical systems such as iPM/Lorenzo/RiO/Cerner in various acute and primary settings. I believe I could work in a similar field in Australia but I’m struggling to find where I can place myself on the Skilled Occupation List. The ASCO codes I’ve picked out are 2231-79 (Computing Professional – NEC) or 3294-11 (Computer Support Technician). They both seem a bit general hence my difficulty here.
Also I don’t have a degree. In fact the highest qualifications I have are ‘A’ Levels. The websites I’ve looked at seem to indicate that a relevant degree for my area of work is needed although in certain circumstances, relevant experience will suffice. As I’ve had nearly 5 years in this role, would this be enough?
If there’s anyone who works in a similar field and is looking to migrate or has already done so, it would be great to hear from you…
Any help greatly appreciated
Thanks,
John

Re: Healthcare IT Job - Looking to Migrate
Hi John,
Almost certainly not I'm afraid. I think both of those occupations would be assessed by the ACS, in your case via the RPL route, see below:
http://www.acs.org.au/index.cfm?acti...ication#others
RPL requires 6 years experience but the basic details on the website also say:
Applicants who apply for RPL and do not hold a recognised academic tertiary qualification will have deducted from their total work experience a period of relevant IT professional experience deemed necessary to have reached the level of qualification allocated. For example, if an applicant is allocated a qualification level equivalent to a 2-year diploma, they will have two years deducted from the total of their recognized work experience, and therefore eight years in total will be needed
I think there is probably a more appropriate route for you than the 175??

Also bear in mind alot of patient systems are developed in house based on what ever platform was the flavour of the month.
