health and safety card..

Re: health and safety card..
Be aware that a card issued in one state isn't necessarily accepted in another. To complicate things further cards issued by the various so called 'accredited' issuers isn't always accepted by all sites. Some companies have arrangements with various training/induction companies and only recognise their tickets.
I was on a confined space course with one guy, a painter, who was doing his 3rd CSp tkt in 8 months. He was a tad PO'd to say the least.

Re: health and safety card..
New legislative changes mean that NSW, Vic and Qld all have mutual recognition of each others red, green and blue cards until the new national standard for construction induction comes in (within 2 yrs). Then it won't matter where you do it . When that happens all existing rainbow coloured cards will likely have a time expiry on them (prob 4-5 yrs) then will need to be replaced by the national card.
The blue dog & other online cards will shortly die a death (long overdue) when it will become outlawed.
In QLD the current blue card is about 3 - 3.5 hrs. From July 1st this course will be replaced by a new 6 hr (and more expensive) card that will comply with the proposed national card. So get in quick to save money and time.
Re Confined Spaces, provided you have a course with national competencies underpinning them (that are based on the Australian CS standard) and provided this is not older than 3 yrs you should not need to do other courses.
Too many tradies can't be arsed to do this 3 day course and then whinge everytime they are asked by clients to do an in house CS induction (that has NO recogniton outside the company). At the end of the day CSs are a big killer of tradies and they are selling their families short by not doing the proper course.
Incidentally the new 3 day nationally recognised safety rep course is now out and this will shortly become a legal requirement.
Under the recent Construction Skills Framework it is highly recomended that site supervisors have Cert III in OHS as a minimum. Many clients are now demanding this prior to work.
All these courses are offered at reasonable rates by www.austchs.com where I'm training manager. Any ?? about OHS give me a call at Wellington Point
Stay safe!!
