Default Health Insurance w/ Pre-Existing Conditions?!

Hi all,

I have a quick query about private health insurance... I need to arrange it soon as a requirement for my visa. BUT - they all exclude pre-existing conditions. I have a mild lung condition bronchiectasis that doesn't generally need treatment, just mostly in the winter here as I pick up infections easier.

How do I cover my bronchiectasis when none of the companies will include it?! The only way I think I can do it, is to take the private health insurance to cover everything but the bronchiectasis..THEN get travel insurance that covers pre-existing medical conditions....?

Does that sound like the only way to go? Surely other people go out with pre-existing conditions and need to be covered...? I'm just a bit confused so any help would be great

Thanks

lerato

Most travel insurance won't cover pre-existing conditions either.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, I managed to find quite a few previously when getting travel cover, quite often just involves ringing up to check with them and when they realise it's not serious then they generally cover it for a little bit more. I wouldn't mind paying more on my oz health insurance to get it, I just don't think there's anyone at all that does...

Hi, I think you would be covered by the reciprocal health care agreement whilst you were a UK passport holder. (If I am wrong, I'm sure someone will pipe up.)

Take out your health insurance bar the bronchiectasis, if you get a chest infection go to a Dr. It should be classed as a case which needs immediate treatment and you should be treated for free under the agreement.

Thank you! I thought I may be covered by the UK-Aus health agreement thing. I've bitten the bullet and bought the insurance... Feel like I am getting somewhere now...!

Thanks for the advice,
