Health insurance on 457 visa
Hi
Im on a 457 visa and will be applying for my PR soon. I will be getting health insurance this week, am getting worried since I cant get medicare. (UK citizen but arrived via New Zealand) Has anyone else used Australian Health Plans, Aushealth.com?
Are they anygood?
scary i know but i miss the NHS, that was so easy.
This company seems to specialise in providing private health cover for temp visa holders.

I have no idea, but I can tell you that if you are in Oz on a 457 and you can get Medicare as soon as you apply for PR. I assume you'd have to wait for the acknowledgement to prove you've applied.
In the meantime have you tried to get Medicare? I know what you're saying about not residing in the UK previous to Oz, but I would think that not all Medicare staff would look that closely at your passport. I'm not exactly sure how it works but it might be worth trying if you haven't already.
Check out this link:
http://www.medicare.gov.au/public/re...ligibility.jsp
Specifically, this part:
People who reside in Australia - excluding Norfolk Island - are eligible if they:
•hold Australian citizenship
•have been issued with a permanent visa
•hold New Zealand citizenship
•have applied for a permanent visa (excludes an application for a parent visa)—other requirements apply. Contact Medicare for further information.
