Hayfever
 

Hello, hoping to come to Adelaide one day....well when and if my visa is granted:unsure:

I spent a year in Oz a few years back and can't remember if I suffered with hayfever. But I get it quite bad in the UK. So for the people in Oz is your hayfever better now then what it was in the UK?

We lived in Melbourne and my hubby suffered really bad much worse than in the UK. We tried every tablet and it was a nightmare as none seemed to work even with a nasal spray.

Everyone is different and it depends on the pollen that affects you.

We are hoping it will be better in Brisbane.

Oh dear did not want to here that, I suffer badly here. What about prickly heat, my Oh can scratch his arms and body to bits when we are abroad on holiday

My daughter suffered really badly with hayfever in Australia - when we came home it cleared up almost immediately. She's now back there and after only 3 days she is suffering again.

I also occasionally suffered from prickly heat, but my worse problems were that i would get ad-hoc swellings, especially around my lip and I areas. On one bad occasion I woke in the middle of the night with my throat itching like mad, can you believe it? Anyway got so bad I ended up in A&E for the night where they pumped anti histamines into me to reduce the swelling.

I had numerous tests over the years, but they were unable to find what the cause was.

Since I have been home I have only ever had this problem once, and nothing like as bad as when living in Australia.

By the way, we were in NSW.

Oh g*d another worry- my husband and daughter suffer badly -hadn't considered it might be worse.

Absolutely yes! I used to suffer so badly in the Uk but here in Melbourne I breathe and sleep peacefully.:zzz:

I didn't really suffer in UK but I am starting to wonder about tree pollen or something like that. My nose won't stop running and feel wheezy. I've had a cold a few weeks back but this feels different as I feel ok though in myself.

I really hope I dont suffer with hayfever is Australia, every yr in the UK hayfever makes my life bloody miserable, I'm allergic to grass pollen and I physically want to scratch my own eyes out and dont get me started on itchy nose and sneezing! its worse this yr because I'm pregnant I'm not allowed to take any anti histamines... :curse:
the weird thing is when I go to Europe or other parts of the world on holiday like the Caribbean I've not suffered with it, I think maybe cos the grass is different! Does that sound dense?! Is Australia's grass the same as ours? Because the grass in some hotter climates are definately different!

Hi - my OH is from Adelaide and suffers from hayfever far more in the UK than he does back home. He reckons the antihistamines in the UK are better than those in Oz.

we have been travelling oz for about 10 weeks now we stared in adelaide - we travelled into adelaide hills and had a little there but whilst travelling not really noticed it

also for those that suffer with migraine i have only had 1 really bad one since being here - altho i think they maybe stress related and considering we are on hols and living a care free life i think that maybe something to do with it. :thumbsup:

I suffered from hayfever when I was a child in the UK. Since then I have lived in several countries and had no problem (including living close to CBD Perth). However, since moving back to Perth in 2004 I suffer very bad hayfever every spring and early summer...to the extent where even with the best of the best hayfever medication I still suffer when I go outdoors.
Maybe crop growing has changed, or maybe my defenses have weakened as I age...who knows.

Hayfever used to ruin my summers in the UK but here in Brisbane I don't get it at all:thumbsup:
I lived in Melbourne for a while.... got it badly, also in NZ.

Everyone seems to be different.

I have found that the tablets only seem to raise the 'trigger level' and can't stop determined symptoms. The most effective strategies I have found are to keep healthy - good diet and enough sleep; and one you may not have heard - honeycomb. Eat local honey and get the honeycomb too. You can get this from an apiary.

TV doctor says to take antihistamine AND nasal spray and eyedrops if you get sore/gritty eyes. Daughter is much better for taking eyedrops and a different med- keep trying out tablets and you may find one that helps.

Also, keep windows shut in the evening and shower before bed to remove pollen from hair.

:curse::curse:I never suffered in the UK from Hayfever but have had it terrible here in Brisbane/ Gold Coast since January. Its so bad I sometimes have to take 2 antihistamine's a day - one when I wake up and one in the evening. It really makes me wheze and my eyes swell up :(

i never had hayfever in uk but here on sunny coast ive had it for the last couple yrs , i take tabs & nasal spray .
